The project references neighboring 60’s post-war housing, with deeply extruded gable roof forms and a robust material palette, providing a creative response to the adjacent built form
Located in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, the project sets out to provide compact affordable housing on a tight corner site. Lot yield was maximized by utilizing the side street as the primary frontage which maximized northern solar access to living and outdoor areas. Taking cues from the neighboring 60’s post-war housing, the project has bold gable roof lines exaggerated through deep extrusions and a robust material palette. The front and side setbacks are heavily landscaped and permeable to stay in keeping with the flood overlay requirements of the site. The proposal displays an architecture that understands and addresses the emerging density of the neighborhood, enhancing the existing housing stock whilst offering opportunity as a strong local precedent.
